Skills Practice Description

What: Skills Practice

When: Saturday, April 26, 2025

Where: Crossroads Church, 990 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio

Time: 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Description: Riders will meet in the Crossroads Church parking lot. After introductory remarks, riders will be assigned to one of eight groups. Each group will then be directed to one of the eight skill exercise areas. Each skill exercise will be supervised by a Road Captain. The Road Captain will first describe the exercise. The description will cover techniques for accomplishing the exercise along with common mistakes to avoid. The Road Captain will then demo the exercise. Each rider will then be given the chance to practice the skill until time expires for that skill station. Each group will get about 20 minutes at each of the eight skill stations.

Skills to be practiced are: Slow speed riding, Turning from a stop, Swerve through a line of cones, U-turn in a box, Braking, Riding over a 2 x 4, Swerving, and a Cone maze.

Break: After the fourth skill exercise is complete, there will be a bathroom break. Unfortunately, the church will not be open, so members will have to go to one of the nearby gas stations. The skills practice will resume when everyone gets back. The plan is for the break to take 30 minutes.

General comments: The goal is for no one to drop their bike while practicing a skill. If you feel uncomfortable about attempting a skill, then skip it. Additionally, only take an exercise to a point that you’re comfortable with. Hopefully riders will recognize a few areas that they could improve on and then practice those skills on their own on another day.

*DISCLAIMER* This is not a class or course and there are no instructors. This is merely an opportunity for riders to get together and practice some fundamental riding skills.
